The bongo is a large, forest-dwelling antelope native to Central and West Africa. It is famous for its vibrant chestnut coat, adorned with striking white stripes that provide excellent camouflage in dense forest habitats. Both male and female bongos have spiraling horns, with males’ horns being thicker and longer, reaching lengths of up to 40 inches.
Bongos are among the largest species of antelope, with males weighing between 500 and 900 lbs. and females weighing slightly less at 400 to 600 lbs. Their majestic appearance and elusive nature make them a standout species for hunters and nature enthusiasts at Ranger Ridge.
